Gen Z and Millennials Boggle at Nostalgic Home Video Showing Off $5000 TV on New Year's Eve 1999

The passage of time truly is relentless. One minute, you're a part of a generation that is the cultural moment, and the next you're on the scrap heap of irrelevance watching all the young people scratch their heads at how you were ever cool in the first place. Almost as alarming as your newfound back pain is how the trends all seem to switch up in the blink of an eye, and the ones that don't come back around (looking at you, Y2K fashion) become almost unthinkable.

Such has been the case for a certain brand of early aughts television, which has been having a viral moment on Twitter thanks to a vintage home video. In it, a man brags about his brand new $5000 TV to his friends at a new year's party celebrating the turn of the millennium. Twitter users of all ages were baffled when they were treated to the grand reveal, which seems outlandish in the day and age we're in now. Who knows how we might think about it in another quarter of a century?
